Early Life & First Entrepreneurial Ventures
Alex Tew was born in 1984 in Wiltshire, England, and from an early age, he had a knack for creativity and thinking outside the box. Like many young people, he faced the challenge of figuring out how to pay for university. Instead of taking the traditional route of loans or part-time jobs, he decided to do something completely different.
In 2005, at just 21 years old, Tew came up with a brilliantly simple but bizarre idea—The Million Dollar Homepage.
His plan was to sell one million pixels on a webpage for $1 each, offering advertisers a tiny slice of internet history. The concept went viral, attracting worldwide media attention, and within just a few months, he had hit his goal, making over $1 million.
The success of The Million Dollar Homepage turned him into an internet sensation and proved that sometimes, the strangest ideas can pay off in a big way. After that, he continued experimenting with various online ventures, always looking for the next big idea.

Other Entrepreneurial Ventures
After the massive success of The Million Dollar Homepage, Alex Tew continued chasing innovative internet ventures, each with its own unique twist. In 2006, he launched Pixelotto, a similar concept to his first viral hit but with a lottery system, though it never quite reached the same level of success. Two years later, he tried One Million People, a project aimed at creating a giant mosaic of one million faces, allowing people to pay for their spot in internet history, but it didn’t take off as expected.
In 2010, he shifted towards social networking with PopJam, a platform for sharing jokes and memes, but it struggled to compete with giants like Facebook and Twitter. Around the same time, he explored the world of sleep science with Sleepio, a digital therapy program aimed at helping people overcome insomnia using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Though none of these projects achieved the same viral success as his first big idea, they showcased his relentless creativity and entrepreneurial mindset, constantly pushing the boundaries of digital innovation.
